Dec 02, 2009. Sphinx 0.9.9-release is out!

Super-long incubation period from "rc2" to "release" tag did not, of course, result in any new features, because of a feature-freeze. We did add a few missing calls and features to APIs and SphinxSE and also a couple of optimizations but that's catching up, not really adding new stuff. On the other hand, looking back at 40+ bugs fixed in this release, I would still say that rc2 was pretty stable, as most of the bugs were either minor, or rare, or both.

Most importantly, index merging is now much more stable. Interesting that it's been around for quite a while, but many bug reports were only filed against 0.9.9 or even 0.9.10 (and then ported back). Perhaps most of you are only adopting it now. So note that 0.9.9-release is an officially recommended occasion to re-evaluate merging if you were having issues with it before.

Another major change worth a mention on the front page isn't directly related to the code, though. Old news to those dedicated people who follow our commits on Googlecode or #sphinxsearch on Twitter, and new news to everyone else, Sphinx now has official IANA assigned ports, 9312 for native API and 9306 for SphinxQL, so update your sphinx.conf and /etc/services. (On a side note, does anyone know what is this appman-server thing that owns port 3312? I'm still occasionally curious about that.)

Along with the new release today, we're also renewing our Consulting Services. We've added a number of services such as Installation Jumpstart that, in simple cases, can be performed within a fixed cost and time frame. So if you require assistance with upgrading (or switching) to 0.9.9-release then our services just got a few more options to consider. You'd expect us to have something for early adopters and, of course, we do. All our Support Packages will be discounted 10% off for those who purchase our consulting services by January 31, 2010. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the services, feel free to email us at sales@sphinxsearch.com or call +1-888-333-1345.

And, while you're busy upgrading, we'll probably be busy building 1.x-alpha with incremental (real-time) updates for Christmas.

As always great work and thanks so much for this new release
We were waiting for the merge fix here we are !
Still wondering between 0.9.9 or 0.9.10 (pre fork), but we have the choice !

Not so great since it didn't work. No time to investigate but 0.9.9rc2 works fine and queries to multiple indexes work fine. For some reason 0.9.9 ignores one index..

Great work done.
Yust improve performacen on Windows

Figured out the problem I had. Seems like sphinx is a bit more strict now, filtering on multiple indexes when the attribute does not exist in all of them causes the query to be not done in that index.

Did you guys fix snippets + filtering? I can't wait to upgrade!

Great. I'm just using the 0.9.9-rc in site: http://www.bectrade.com/ .
With this release, I will update to this in one or two days.

Andrew,

Great work! You have created an open source project that is one of the best out there!

Now, I have to change some details of the chapter in my book now that 0.9.9 is out!

Thanks very much for sphinx overall and release.
Waiting for this very much --> incremental (real-time) updates

Fantastic News. Just heard it over at Mysql performance blog. I have been implementing Sphinx in 4 sites now, each one with some unique twists and large data sets and it just works better then anything else with fulltext searches and I have tried a lot. Looking forward to real-time incremental updates as well. Good job!

I think that the looong delay before release served as a flourish of showmanship, because I'm definitely more grateful that this has arrived than I would have been if you'd just released it a month or two after the last beta announcement.

But please, don't torture us with such suspense in the future, my heart can hardly take the anticipation. :)

And big thanks for creating one of the best open source projects available, hands down. It's a blessing.
